After Buddy’s career ending injury, a very special dog came into my life. Ty, a 3 year old Shetland Sheepdog was given to me to “run until I got a new puppy”. A very short time into my relationship with Ty, it was clear to his owner, David Brooks that Ty was going to stay with me forever. I can never thank David enough. Training with Ty started out rough. He was not confident, and he needed a lot of “rehab” when it came to agility. Ty was not consistent, but he was very fast. He taught me to handle, and how to motivate dogs to go! In 2005, we qualified to attend the USDAA World Cynosport Games in DAM Team and Steeplechase. We traveled to Arizona just for a new experience, and to everyone’s surprise, on my 13th Birthday, Ty and I made the Steeplechase Finals. THE FINALS. Something I had only dreamed about at this point, and I could hardly wrap my head around it. The night of the finals was amazing. The crowds, the lights, the ring, announcers, music, competitors….so incredibly amazing! We ran CLEAN and came in 5th place that night. Best Birthday. Ever. ☺ Since then, agility is all I’ve ever wanted to do. Ty completed his ADCH, ADCH Bronze, APD, APD Bronze, LAA Bronze, Silver, and Gold titles. Many, many titles in both AKC and USDAA… Top ten placements for many years in a row, and finalist positions each year at nationals…. This dog: I can’t say enough about him. There isn’t enough I can say to explain just how lovely he is. At 13 years old, he’s living with me in Washington… bossing dogs around and competing occasionally in Veterans classes in USDAA.
